Gambling stays entertainment when it stays controlled

We design GoldenPlay as entertainment, and entertainment has a budget. Every account carries its own control tools, the warning signs worth taking seriously are well known, and independent organisations help when gambling stops feeling like a choice. Using a limit is a sign of a player in control, not of a problem.

Five habits that keep play in control

  1. Decide your budget before you deposit, and treat it as spent entertainment money, never as an investment.
  2. Set a deposit limit in your account on day one, so the decision is made once rather than every session.
  3. Keep track of the time you play; long sessions blur judgement faster than short ones.
  4. Never chase a loss: a losing session ends at the limit, not at the next deposit.
  5. Take regular breaks, and treat any urge to hide your play as a signal to stop and talk to someone.

The tools in your account

The responsible gaming tab in your profile holds three self-service controls:

  • Deposit limits: cap what you can deposit per day, per week or per month; the cashier enforces the cap automatically.
  • Loss limits: once your chosen loss threshold is exceeded, further betting is suspended until the end of the selected period.
  • Self-exclusion: lock your account for a chosen period of up to 60 months; the lock takes effect without any conversation, and our support team can also close an account permanently on request.

Independent help, by name and number

When gambling stops feeling voluntary, independent organisations help better than willpower. In Ireland, the Gambling Care Helpline answers on 1800 936 725, 24 hours a day. In France, Joueurs Info Service takes calls on 09 74 75 13 13, at no surcharge. In Germany, Check dein Spiel answers on 0800 1 37 27 00, free and anonymous. In Italy, the Telefono Verde Nazionale per le problematiche legate al gioco d’azzardo is free on 800 558 822. In Canada, ConnexOntario is free and confidential on 1-866-531-2600, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. These organisations are independent of us; we list them because early conversations work better than late ones.
A call costs nothing and commits you to nothing. The person answering has heard every version of the story before, and the first conversation is usually shorter and easier than expected. If you are worried about someone close to you rather than yourself, the same lines advise families and friends too.

Warning signs worth acting on

  • Depositing more than you planned, or depositing to win back what was lost.
  • Hiding play from family or friends, or feeling restless when not playing.
  • Borrowing money to gamble, or gambling with money meant for bills.
  • Thinking about gambling during work, study or time with others.
  • Needing larger stakes for the same excitement as before.
  • If two or more of these feel familiar, set a limit today and call one of these organisations; minors must never hold an account, and age checks are part of registration.
